In this lovely Cessna 172
I knew what would happen when I took this discovery flight. I am hooked. I have not felt this interested or motiva ted to do something since I bought my Austin Healey. I really want to get my Pilots licence and work my way up and up. Good bye and soft of money I was thinking of saving.

Anything with a high wing and a window you can open = win
My grandfather was a WWII vet and then a criminal defense attorney who got burned out on all the scumbags and stress. He took an intro flight in a Cessna 140 in 1950 and basically walked away from his job after that. He became an aviation lobbyist in DC and wrote more than 15 books on flying, especially aimed at beginners. He also became a paid speaker all over the place, basically an aviation VIP. Living the dream.
O ut of print now, but this was the first one:

Don’t take the machine into the air unless you are satisfied it will fly.
Wow. Some of those read like, “If we need to be telling you this, perhaps you shouldn’t be fly ing.”

We should do it. We’d have four, maybe five members. We could have our own secret wing waggle.

I saw that too. I suppose w e can get started by tagging all our posts with Two Wings Good. Let me know when you pick a school and I can point you to some good online study resources.

Well one of my good friends got his license some time back and has been an instructor for a while. So I am going to go check out his school. Supposedly a good instructor so it would be cool to know I have someone to chat with outside the school. So I am checking that school out later.
I have been looking at the Gold Circle website . What else should I check out?

Gold Seal? The online ground school? I’m always cautious about recommending an online school, whether for this or college or whatever. The completion rates are really low or it takes a ridiculous amount of time since you aren’t required to complete everything in a specific timeframe. It’s really hard to find the motivation to finish.
I prefer courses that are in-person. You can learn more that way. There’s a lot to be said for the spontaneity which leads to questions which lead to unintended learning opportunities.
Study tools are another matter.
https://www.faa.gov/training_testing/training/
https://quizlet.com/11688319/faa-written-exam-flash-cards/ (these are really good. There are several sets out there, just search for private pilot and/or FAA)

They had a bunch of stuff you could do for free so I figured I’d do that to just learn stuff. I have heard good things about them at least sponsoring aviation stuff. I am not sure how good their actual school stuff is though.
I agree though i would much prefer in person.
Thank you for the links, I will check them out

True, but then again, that period seems to have had plenty of daredevils who might not let that stop them.
My dad has this in his library, and it cracks me up every time.

My father always told me he flew by one rule above all others:
“Always have an equal number of take offs and landings.”

When I come up with the money to afford it
WilliamsSW

Yeah, that’s the challenging part. I learned while I was working full time and finishing my MBA in the evenings - if I could give one piece of advice, it would be to take lessons when you’re able to fly once a week or better. Between work, school, Chicago weather, and short winter days, I went 3-4 weeks without flying a few times. As a result, I spent some lesson time (and $$$!) working the rust off from lack of practice.
It’ll take you fewer hours and fewer $ if you make sure your calendar and bank account can handle frequent flying - - good luck!!

Thanks. Yeah right now I don’t see affording to fly. I talked to my buddy who is a flight instructor and got info on the school he works at etc. So we will see. I haven’t felt this motivated to do something in a long time. So I hope I can figure it out.

I would suggest sorting out (realistically) what it will cost, and figuring out how to get the money you need first. Otherwise, you’re liable to get a bit flustered if you’re on again/off again, or feel like you need to quit due to the cost.
If it takes a bit of time to save the money, you’ll be better off in the long run having done that. Hopefully you’re able to do it soon- it’s very rewarding! !
